There is no doubt about it. Dogs are cute. Regardless of breed, our lovable pups always offer silly expressions, funny behavior, or adorable poses that melt our hearts. The question is often asked, what is the cutest dog breed?

While we love all dogs and believe they are all adorable and beautiful in their own way, some breeds are known for their looks more than others. Before we get into our list, we must point out that looks certainly do not make the dog. There is a lot more to it than that. Additionally, the concept of what is cute is somewhat subjective. What is appealing to one dog owner may not be cute to another. How a dog fits in with a person’s life and how much they add to it goes far beyond looks.

Cuteness means many things, and there are far too many dog breeds to ever make a complete list. We came up with our list of cutest dog breeds. Though it was not an easy process, we made a list of our favorite cute dog breeds. If we missed one, feel free to let us know in the comments!

It is a challenging task to define cute. Cute is a combination of endearing qualities. A blend of looks, personality, intelligence, and affection makes an animal attractive in a lovable and engaging way. Dogs, especially puppies, are often associated with descriptions of being cute and adorable. Most people can agree that regardless of the kind of pup, there is just something about a puppy that brings on warm and fuzzy feelings.

It can be hard to measure cuteness. After all, what makes a dog adorable and interesting to one person may not be what appeals to another. There has been some research done on the subject. In some cases, like this analysis done by Money Beach, the use of the golden ratio, which is also called the Fibonacci sequence, was applied. This is a number that is used to define what proportions of the body look the best. It is often used in art and can be applied to the facial structures of a dog. According to Mathnasium, many artists and architects believe that the golden ratio creates the most aesthetically pleasing shapes.

This number is also depicted by the Greek letter phi and is equal to approximately 1.618. The formula to find the golden ratio divides a line into two different parts where:

We looked at physical attributes, intelligence, and friendliness to come up with a list of the cutest dogs out there. American Eskimo

The American Eskimo Dog is an adorable, white fluffy pup that belongs to the Spitz family. They reach about 10 to 30 pounds fully grown, which is big on personality. They come in three sizes: miniature, toy, and standard. These fluffy little tykes live, on average, 12 to 15 years.

Because they are small, these pups do very well living in small homes and apartments. American Eskimo Dogs are highly affectionate, love kids and other canines, and are a breed that does well with inexperienced dog owners. Cute and Corgi are basically synonymous terms. There are two types of Corgis: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. The Cardigan is the older breed. Though both are adorable and lovable dogs, for this list, we are focusing on Pembroke Welsh. These are the same breed favored by the late Queen Elizabeth.

Pembroke Corgis have big personalities and are hardworking dogs. Though many people keep them simply as pets, they were bred to be herding dogs and are often used as working dogs on farms and ranches. Because these pups are so low to the ground, they can easily maneuver between cattle and direct them in the right way. These pups love to play and like to be around people. If they cannot play, they’re more than happy to cuddle.

Pembroke Corgis are remarkably friendly and have a sweet nature. They are small dogs and will not weigh more than 30 pounds. These adorable pups stand between 10 and 12 inches tall from paw to shoulder. Corgis have soft fluffy coats covering muscular, athletic bodies. The teacup version is incredibly tiny and weighs under 3 pounds.

They have double coats of soft fluffy fur. The outer coat is a little rougher and weatherproof. Pomeranians have several physical features that look like those of a fox, including a ruff of fur around their necks, which creates a bit of a lion’s mane look. They have wedge-shaped heads, pointy ears, and twinkling friendly eyes. This is another breed that always looks like they are smiling, which, combined with their small size and fluffy coats, make them one of the cutest things we have ever seen.

The Samoyed is a medium-sized adorable canine. They reach 35 to 65 pounds as adults. Like many other sled dogs, the Samoyed comes from Siberia and is part of the Spitz family. This pup has a signature smile caused by an upturned mouth. This also prevents them from drooling, which was important back when this dog was primarily used as a working dog in the harsh wintry conditions of Siberia.

This breed’s coat is nothing short of spectacular. They are very bright and are accepted only in four colors, which are white, biscuit, cream, and a blend of biscuit and white. Samoyed hair is vibrantly colored and even has a bit of a shimmery sparkle to it.

Shibas known for their fairly unique appearance, often being described as a mix between a fox and a dog. Most notably, the breed is known for its confident, smiling expression. They have deep-set, dark, triangular eyes, contributing to their fox-like appearance. They have black noses, black lips, and small triangular ears. The Shiba is a sturdy, agile dog, something that has been bred into them since ancient times.

This breed has soft, bushy double coats and dense undercoats covered by straight rougher outer hair. To fit the breed standard, they should always have shorter hair. They come in four colors: black and tan, red, sesame, and cream.

Shibas look like big cuddly teddy bears but have powerful personalities. They have a very independent nature and may be reluctant to listen. Partly because that is an almost impossible task, but also because the word cute means separate things to different people. For some, cute means a sweet, affectionate personality. For others, it is a long silky coat, and for some, it is a muscular, athletic build. We believe that every dog is a unique, amazing animal and is cute in its own distinctive way.

Caring for a dog, regardless of breed, is a wonderful privilege and an immense responsibility. Canines are not pets that can simply be kept in a home all day and left with bowls of food and water. They need exercise, interaction, mental stimulation, and plenty of physical activity. Every dog breed has unique needs.
