I make a cinnamon roll cake that’s very similar to this, the main difference is the one I make has a recipe for a glaze to put on the cake when it’s hot. It’s really good!

    • Natalie

What is the glaze you put on it?

  • Heather Heverly

Could us lazy girls do the same thing with the topping only use a box cake mix do you think?

    • Laura Moore

We lazy girls or always-pressed-for-time girls could definitely use a bought cake mix for this recipe.

  • Natalie

@ Kim T. What is the glaze you put on it?

    • Kathy H

We used a store- bought vanilla glaze by Duncan Hines. Kids loved it!!

  • Becky A.

My son and I had “Mommy and me” time and made this together. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I posted a pic of him and the cake on Facebook.
    Thanks again!

  • Kelly B

Right away I thought….”Yum!” I would definitely do pecans in this. It kind of looks like pecans in the pic. Are they?

  • Sara

an easy glaze is just mix powdered sugar with milk… just mix a little milk to alot of powdered sugar and stir… continue adding milk till its the consistency you want

  • Sawyne

Making this right now! Love it.

  • Tammy

Mmmmmm… this looks good! Think I will try a vegan version with almond or soy milk, Earth Balance & egg replacer!

    • Brandy

Tammy – I used light vanilla almond milk as a replacement for the milk and it turned out great. I know it’s not the full substitute list you want to try…but at least now you know a substitute milk will work 🙂 Good luck!

      • Tammy

        Thanks Brandy!

  • Sammi Richardson

I just put this cake in the oven!

  • Anissa

I made this last week when we realized an hour before we had to leave for a get together that we were supposed to bring a dessert. I had all the ingredients on hand and the prep time was perfect. It was a huge hit! My husband even requested it for breakfast this morning! Thank you for this recipe.. definitely a keeper.

      Glad you liked it!

When I first poured it into the pan, I thought the batter was a little thin, but it turned out great.

  • ButteryMuffyn

I just made this, and immediately had to make a second one because suddenly 6 kids descended on the kitchen and demolished it!!!!

  • glad

    enjoy

  • tessa

is this supposed to rise? cuz mine didn’t and was pretty thin :-/ wondering if i put it in a smaller container to bake instead of 13×9

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      It should 🙂

  • Crystal

Almost done baking, and made a powder sugar glaze for the top!!!

  • Lauren

I was browsing Pinterest for something to bake and found this recipe. It’s in the oven baking now.

  • Nicole

    Totally pinning this! Thanks 🙂

  • Christine

I have only had this in the oven for about 5 minutes and it already smells incredible. I didn’t have any nuts, pecans or walnuts. Darn! And I substituted buttermilk for regular milk. So we shall have to see how this version turns out. But if the aroma is any indication, it’s gonna be great!

  • Josephine

Saw this on pinterest and it is so yummy! Made it again tonight! When its done I poke holes in it and drizzle evaporated milk over it! It makes it have sweet little pockets!

  • Shelli

Going to try this – from scratch and with a cake mix. A good all-purpose glaze for just about anything – instead of milk with powdered sugar, use flavored coffee creamer. I think hazelnut creamer with powdered sugar would go well with this cake. Or amaretto!

  • mrsblocko

I made this and wrote about it here.

For some reason the bars were super moist and didn’t want to hold together! They did behave themselves after putting them in the freezer. I thought they tasted better frozen too. My family thought they were awesome, even though they didn’t turn out as expected. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

      Hope you like it 🙂

This recipe looks great. I can’t wait to try it. I’m a little confused though. The cake is pictured in a loaf pan, but the recipe calls for a 9 by 13 pan. Can I use either pan? Thanks for your attention! Happy New Year!

    • Budget Savvy Diva

It is a 9×13 pan in the picture

      • Denise

My perception must be off. Thank you so much for your quick reply and for posting this recipe.

  • crystal

Just finished making this. I didn’t use nuts but added a icing sugar glaze and drizzled over cake. Smells amazing. Can’t wait for the reviews. Thanks for sharing!

  • Tamra

Just made this for breakfast .. I added raisins to the batter , then a glaze on top. FANTASTIC!!

  • Sara

I made this with gluten free flour and almond milk. It came out great! Absolutely delicious!

  • Danelle

This tastes like a cross between cinnamon toast and pecan pie. Delicious!!!

  • kelly almasy

I didnt use the entire sugar topping because there was already so much in the batter. Also added some raisins to the batter and spinkled some oats and flax meal on the top. We’ll see….

  • Kerstin

I made this for the first time today minus the walnuts, which I didn’t have on hand..made a powdered sugar icing as well( 1 1/4 cups of powdered sugar + 3 tablespoons of Milk ,or more if needed) Might use less sugar next time 😉

All in all an easy and delicious treat!

  • Wendy Susak

I added a medium apple chopped, 1/4 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of apple pie spice to the recipe. Placed the brown sugar, cinnamon and melted butter in all together, and poured it on the top ,then swirled it lightly with a knife. After that, I drizzled a powdered sugar frosting on top. I did bake this in a loaf pan however, and made a great treat bread. Yummy.

  • Sherrie

Just put one in the oven. I was looking for something quick. I didn’t have any milk so I used half and half…hope it works! Also used pecans instead of walnuts. Thanks and we’ll see. =D

  • Joyce Burgin

I loved reading all the comments and reviews above. Going to try this and add some raisins and apples and glaze just for kicks. Thanks for such an easy go-to recipe!

This was super good but mine didn’t rise very much. I mixed it by hand though, did you use a mixer? Was wondering if that might be the reason. Thank you!
