With just a few short weeks until the newest edition of the biggest football game around arrives, the Madden 24 ratings have already been revealed and the stars of the league are taking center stage. At the top tier, the upper echelon of the 99 Club includes five different players this year at five different positions.

If there’s a modern king of the Madden 99 Club, it’s a no contest to crown Aaron Donald who enters that coveted upper tier for the seventh consecutive year in Madden 24. While the Los Angeles Rams were only able to put all the pieces together for a Super Bowl Championship in the 2021 season, Aaron Donald has remained the undeniable foundation of their defense for several years now.

Unfortunately, that foundation was yanked away from the Rams last season after Aaron Donald suffered an ankle sprain in Week 13. With the Rams having already fallen out of playoff contention by that point in the season, they chose to keep Donald safely resting for the remainder of the year to ensure he’d be ready to go at 100 percent when the 2023 season kicks off. Over the course of the last few years, Justin Jefferson has quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous wide receivers in the league. Sitting at just a 74 OVR in Madden 21 for his rookie season, Jefferson’s NFL performances quickly saw him on the rise up to 87 OVR in Madden 22, 93 OVR last year, and then his first appearance in the 99 Club at launch in Madden 24.

While he’d already had impressive performances in his first two seasons including ten touchdowns in 2021, last year really solidified Jefferson as one of the modern greats with a league leading 128 receptions for 1,809 receiving yards that earned him the Offensive Player of the Year award – not to mention a slew of highlight reel catches. If you’re looking for a gold standard at quarterback in the modern era, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs has the strongest case in the league today. After dropping down to 95 OVR at launch in Madden 23, Patrick Mahomes is back in the 99 Club for the third time in four years and earns the honor of being the highest rated quarterback in Madden 24 at launch.

Winning cures all, and the Chiefs’ hard-fought AFC Championship loss in the 2021 season was followed by Mahomes leading the team all the way to their second Super Bowl Championship in four years to end the 2022 season. Mahomes lit things up on the scoreboard and in the victory circle, but he also led the league in the record books with 5,250 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and 308.8 yards per game through the regular season.

4. Travis Kelce – 99 OVR (Kansas City Chiefs)

If there’s a formula for success in Kansas City, it’s arguable that Travis Kelce is just as important an ingredient as Patrick Mahomes. A staple of the franchise for nearly a decade now, Kelce has become the most formidable tight end in the NFL, an honor that long belonged to Rob Gronkowski and Tony Gonzalez before him. At just 33 years of age, Kelce seems to only improve and hasn’t slowed down one bit as he jumps into the 99 Club once again after first getting that launch rating for Madden 22.

Kelce has led the league among tight ends for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns several years in his career. Kelce also set the NFL record among tight ends for receiving yards with 1,416 yards in the 2020 regular season. The same year, he set the NFL record among tight ends for receptions in the postseason, and Kelce’s skills paired with Mahomes to lead Kansas City to another Super Bowl Championship last season.

5. Zack Martin – 99 OVR (Dallas Cowboys)

While offensive weapons like Justin Jefferson or Travis Kelce carry lots of flash, the unsung heroes of those weapons are often at the offensive line. They may not have the same exciting statistics backing up their success that other positions bring to the table, but Madden Ratings Adjustors and most league experts agree there are a few nearly immovable forces. Perhaps the most undeniable in recent years is Zack Martin, the final entry in the 99 Club for Madden 24.

This is his first 99 Club entry at launch, but Martin has rated among the best offensive linemen in Madden for several years with a 98 OVR rating the last three consecutive releases. Unfortunately, those years have also seen some rough seasons for the Dallas Cowboys who can’t exactly build a championship run on Martin alone. However, he continued to anchor the line last season as the Cowboys pushed to a 12-5 regular season record and a Wild Card playoffs victory before coming up just short against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional playoffs. The Cowboys may need to improve in other areas, but Martin is a rock they can count on.

6. Lane Johnson – 98 OVR (Philadelphia Eagles)

As we slip away from the 99 Club into the players who narrowly missed out and earned a near-perfect 98 OVR in Madden 24, the first player up is offensive lineman Lane Johnson. A staple of the Philadelphia Eagles since 2013, Johnson has consistently shown out, including two first-team All-Pro appearances. The first came in 2017 when Johnson and the Eagles took the Super Bowl Championship, and the most recent was last season when Johnson also earned his fourth Pro Bowl appearance.

Last season also happened to be the closest Johnson and the Philadelphia Eagles have been to repeating their Super Bowl Championship success of 2017. After helping the team towards a 13-2 record late in the regular season, Johnson was inactive the last few games before getting back on the field for their playoffs run. The Eagles dominated both the Giants and 49ers on the way to the Super Bowl, and Johnson played 100 percent of the snaps in their narrow 38-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

7. Myles Garrett – 98 OVR (Cleveland Browns)

Last year, Myles Garrett became the first Cleveland Browns player to enter the 99 Club at launch with his 99 OVR rating in Madden 23. Unfortunately for Garrett, he’s still playing for the Browns at a time where they’ve yet to discover some consistent winning ways. Despite Garrett earning All-Pro nods and his fourth Pro Bowl appearance, the Browns only managed to muster up a meager 7-10 regular season, far from enough to earn them a playoffs run.

While there are still plenty of other issues with the Browns that they’ll have to address to see more success in the new season, they can trust that Myles Garrett will keep things locked down on defense. Garrett finished the 2022 regular season with 60 combined tackles, 37 solo tackles, 26 quarterback hits, four passes defended, and two forced fumbles. Even if the Browns can’t always turn it into a win, Garrett will continue to terrorize offenses in the new year.

8. Nick Bosa – 98 OVR (San Francisco 49ers)

Another standout on the defensive side of the ball who came close to breaking into the 99 Club this year is San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa. In just four years, Bosa has already pushed his way to the pinnacle of defense as he earned the honor of being named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. Bosa was an integral part of the 49ers 13 wins, which earned them a berth in the playoffs.

Once in the postseason, the 49ers came up just short after toppling the Seahawks and Cowboys only to lose the NFC Championship to eventual Super Bowl losers the Philadelphia Eagles largely due to Brock Purdy suffering an early injury and the Niners having to rely on their fourth quarterback (Josh Johnson). Bosa led the league with 18.5 sacks in the regular season while also racking up 41 solo tackles. In the playoffs, Bosa recovered one fumble and managed four tackles for loss that helped propel the 49ers ever closer to a Super Bowl Championship.

After joining the 99 Club at launch in Madden 23, Trent Williams is just shy of that honor this year as he gets a 98 OVR at launch that could easily turn into a 99 OVR later in the year should the 49ers see major success this season. Despite spending more than a decade in the league, Trent Williams remains one of the most consistent and reliable offensive tackles in the NFL. Williams hasn’t dipped below a 92 OVR or higher at launch since Madden 17, and the near-Super Bowl berth for the San Francisco 49ers last season puts him just shy of perfect in Madden 24.

While he was inactive for three games earlier in the season, Trent Williams played the vast majority of snaps for the San Francisco 49ers in every game he appeared in and into the 2022 playoffs. That included playing 100 percent of the snaps in a crucial 19-12 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Divisional round. The team was unable to keep that momentum against the Philadelphia Eagles and lost in the NFC Championship, but Williams once again earned his spot as one of the highest rated players in Madden 24.

Now in a new home, Hill signed a massive extension that made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

Dubbed “Cheetah,” a handle Hill still uses on social media, there’s no denying the nickname fits in Madden 24 as he has the highest Speed, Acceleration, and Change of Direction ratings in the entire game.
