Free up the oven this holiday season with this crockpot green bean casserole recipe! It turns out amazing and is one less dish to worry about. It’s so easy that you’ll make this slow cooker green bean casserole recipe every time.

Every Thanksgiving we have to have the classic green bean casserole on the menu. I mean, is it really Thanksgiving without it?

However, I decided to try to make a crockpot green bean casserole recipe version, because I was tired of my oven being so full on the holidays. The results were perfection. If you prefer to use the Instant pot, we also have an Instant Pot Green Bean Casserole Recipe.

Making the traditional green bean casserole recipe in the crock pot casserole dish is awesome for Thanksgiving or Christmas.

You are saving room in your oven! I don’t know about you but the oven space is prime real estate at my house on a holiday!

Ingredients for green bean casserole crock pot recipe:

• Green Beans, drained
• Cream of mushroom soup
• Milk
• Salt and Pepper
• French Fried onions

How to make Crockpot Green Bean Casserole

Step 1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soups, milk, salt and pepper. Mix well.

Step 2. Add in the green beans and ½ cup of the french fried onion. Gently Fold to combine.

Step 3. Spray yourcrock pot with non stick spray. Spread out the green bean in the pan.

Step 4. Add the lid and cook on low for 2-3 hours. You can also cook on high for 1 hour.

Step 5. Remove the lid and sprinkle with the remaining french fried onions and serve!

Note: This casserole dish will easily hold double the recipe (or even triple!) which makes it perfect when serving a crowd!

How many does this serve?

This recipe can easily serve 8 people. However, it can also easily be doubled or tripled for the holidays to feed a crowd.

Can you brown the fried onions?

I usually don’t mess with browning the fried onions but you definitely can if you prefer.

There are 2 ways that you can brown the fried onions on top of this green bean casserole.

First, if you have an oven safe crock pot insert (with no plastic on it). You can remove the insert and broil the casserole for 2-3 minutes to brown the onions on top.

The second option is to brown the fried onions in a small amount of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Then place them on top of the casserole in the crock pot.

Variations for slow cooker green bean casserole:

• Change the Cream of soup – If you’re not a cream of mushroom soup fan, switch it out for cream of chicken soup or cream of celery.

• Use Frozen or Fresh Green Beans – You can use fresh or frozen green beans. I do recommend that you let the frozen green beans thaw slightly before placing them in the crockpot. Otherwise, they tend to make the green bean casserole a little too watery.

• Make it Cheesy – Use canned cheddar soup in place of the cream of mushroom for a cheesy green bean casserole.

• Top with parmesan cheese – Parmesan cheese is a great addition to green bean casserole. Sprinkle about ½ cup on top when you top with the extra fried onions to jazz up this classic casserole.

• Add more Seasonings – I like to keep this recipe very simple with the ingredients. However black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, or even Worcestershire sauce are great additions to this easy recipe.

Crockpot Green Bean Casserole Tips

Since this is a crockpot recipe, it does have a little longer cooking time than traditional green bean casserole. Keep that in mind when you’re planning out your dishes.

I like to go ahead and prep and get this green bean casserole going first thing. If needed, you can always switch it to warm.

How to Store:

If you have any leftovers, store them in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.

It’s best reheat in the oven to make the fried onions crispy again but you can heat them up in the microwave as well.
