Mouse and Manic Artist in stormy weather!

Here in the UK we are having challenging time dealing with constant rain and stormy weather.  Having just had a day of rain that was the equivalent of the amount of rain for  a normal month things do not like they will return to normal very soon.   Thousands of people are without power and many having to abandon homes and farms where flood water has taken hold across great swathes of land.  I am staying firmly holed up in my attic studio watching the rain lash down across the hillside and listening to the roof creaking in the wind.  I am trying a larger painting and the drawing is under way.

Elephants and Mice

The Elephant, The Mouse and The Cherries

Available as an 6″x8″ Print

The Elephant and the Mouse

Evidence seems to suggest that elephants do not like small animals running frantically around their feet particularly as they cannot see them properly. Naturally in the wild quick moving small animals like snakes are a danger and so elephants would try to get away from them as quickly as they could.   This may be  the reason that elephants appear to be afraid of mice.

Fable featuring a mouse and an elephant

An ancient fable tells the story of a duel between an elephant and a mouse for the position of king among the animals.  The elephant sat and laughed at the mouse until the mouse climbed into his ear (or in another story his trunk) and nipped him hard and drove him mad until the elephant ultimately admitted defeat.

I like my elephant and mouse to be friends, so here they are.

Mouse in the Corner, Cat in the Basket.

Meditating Cats

You know that if a cat appears to be meditating by staring into the corner of a room that something must be in that corner.  Tucked behind a bookshelf back to the wall was Mousie, looking quite wholesome and undamaged.  I think Simba Fangcat brought it in for a game or perhaps we have mice in the walls (as opposed to Wolves in the Walls -a favourite children’s picture book of mine, especially the illustrations).

 Organising Chaos

It took me an hour to sort out the situation with everyone surviving intact. I mean catching the mouse took a relatively short period of time.  Guide Mousie towards container and pop container over.  The rest of the time was spent finding a suitable container, moving items off the top of the bookshelf, clearing the area, putting the cat out and blocking the catflap with a bin, finding something to encourage the mouse out of the corner and a light to tracMousie makes his escape with a cherry ACEO by Diane Youngk progress behind the bookshelf, and finding a glove in case I needed to grab it on the way.  I also had to find a piece of card that would fit over the container which was two floors up in the attic studio.  At one point in trying to encourage Mousie out he was straddling wall and bookshelf in the gap like a furry mountain climber in a ravine.

Mousie Makes his Getaway

After dispatching Mousie to the far end of the garden I had to get the cat who had now come outside back in again or else I might to repeat the procedure over againSimba Fangcat Brings in a Mouse.  I still had all the stuff to put back and away….whilst Simba got back into his basket  to continue his nap as if nothing has happened.

World of Colour

Not so much blogging this week as I have neglected words for colour issues and other technicalities on my website.  I struggle with choosing colour  for my website background as I think the artwork images should do the work really,  just like an artists portfolio should actually  speak for itself.  I get the feeling that my preference for black is not terribly popular, although really it is difficult to tell.  Feeback from anyone prepared to look is welcome, the more the merrier.  Let’s hope I am going into a purple patch so to speak to reflect my chosen colour !

Commission Me This
