The Best Eggnog French Toast Recipe – Ingredients Needed

  • 6 Slices of Bread – I use Texas toast or some other soft and thick bread (about 3/4″-1″).
  • 1/2 cup eggnog
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • Desired toppings – maple syrup, syrup, powdered sugar, berries, whipped cream, sautéed apples, or candied walnuts. I love peanut butter on my French toast, but with this recipe it would mask the eggnog, so I don’t use it.

Making French toast is easy, which is one reason why it is at the top of my list of favorite breakfast items, falling just behind an amazing breakfast sandwich.

The other reason? It’s just plain yummy. Here are the steps for making this eggnog French toast:

  • Add the eggnog, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla to a shallow pan. I use one of the pans from my breading pan set. I love having these breading trays.
  • Whisk ingredients together until fully incorporated.
  • Lay bread in the mixture, first on one side and then on another. How long you allow to remain depends on the texture you like for your French toast. Longer soaking means a more soft, custardy result. This article about the common French toast mistakes from Bon Appetit recommends 15-20 minutes of soaking. What?! I personally disagree. I think the French toast is too soggy when soaked too long, so I do a simple 30 seconds to a minute on each side.
  • Preheat pan and then allow butter to melt on medium heat on a nonstick skillet.
  • Toast to desired doneness, about 3-4 minutes per side.

What is Eggnog?

Eggnog is an interesting Christmas treat.

I have found that people either really like eggnog or they don’t. I’m assuming, since you are here, you are in the eggnog fan club. I am too!

When people tell me they don’t like eggnog, I’m always convinced they weren’t exposed to it right.

Growing up, my mom would make eggnog like this. This method provided a more mild eggnog flavor. Layer on the nutmeg, and it’s just delicious.

What is eggnog, anyway? Eggnog is traditionally made with whipped egg whites, egg yolk, milk, cream, and sugar. The origins of this drink are unknown, but there are hints of both British and American roots.

Eggnog is popularly used to make cookies, scones, co*cktails, cakes and more. It is a common drink during the holiday season.

Enjoy your eggnog this season, and enjoy it with the best eggnog French toast recipe provided here.
